Inspired by the radical grass symbol (艸 / ++), Karmuel and Tomy present Tower—a multimedia work merging art, fashion, and furniture. Using contemporary raw materials, it frames growth as emergence and transformation.
Karmuel's base distills Suprematist and Constructivist principles. Rigid geometric forms establish stability, while a neutral palette highlights material textures through contrast. This structured foundation creates a precise, balanced system.
Tomy extends the piece with a luminous cellular structure acting as both light and organism. The floor lamp is conceived as a suspended “cell”: a translucent 3D-printed resin core encased in an inflatable latex membrane that functions as a synthetic placenta. Through inflation and deflation, the latex alternates between expansion and compression, allowing the form to oscillate between exposure and containment. In contrast to the rigid base, this upper structure emphasizes vulnerability, permeability, and time, presenting light as a living condition shaped by pressure and duration.
